Remote Teams
You’re Master Foo from “Unix Koans of Master Foo”.
One disciple comes and asks, “Master Foo, with teams being more and more decentralized, spanning multiple time zones around the globe, how does one know if the team still walks the Way?”
Master Foo set down his teacup and asked:
“Disciple, if a mountain is hidden in mist, does it cease to be a mountain?”
The disciple shook his head.
“Then how do you know the mountain is still there?”
“By its rivers that flow, by its echo when I call, by the paths that climb,” replied the disciple.
Master Foo smiled.
“So it is with a team that follows the Way. You may not see them face to face, yet their code flows, their words echo, and the paths to understanding remain clear. If the rivers dry, if the echoes fade, if the paths are tangled—then know the Way has been lost, no matter the time zone.”
And the disciple was enlightened.
